Bioavailability of Contaminants in Soil

8.7 Case Study

A case study is included describing a relative bioavailability study of PAHs in skeet target fragments that was performed using mice and will be used to adjust soil cleanup levels. The study was performed at a Formerly Used Defense Site where skeet target fragments remained in soils after closure of the former Air Force Base. A summary of the study and its results is provided at the link below, and further details on the methods used may be found in the peer-reviewed journal titled “Oral and Dermal Bioavailability Studies of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons from Soils Containing Weathered Fragments of Clay Shooting Targets”, which may be accessed free of charge here.
